The scars of acne

Acne is a disease of the skin where clogged pores from dirt and debris along with excess subcutaneous sebum oil. Unless treated from the beginning, acne can turn severe and finally dry up, leaving deep scars on the face and body. There are plenty of acne scar removal treatment processes in Dubai.

A guide to the various kinds of treatment available

Functional laser treatment is a process where heat is applied to the places where there are acne scars and the uppermost skin of the places where scars have occurred are removed. The layers of damaged skin from these places are gently removed while the treatment causes new cells to form on the spots. A noticeable change begins to be observed within a few days as the effect of the scars begins to diminish. There is a little pain similar to an elastic band being snapped on the skin when the laser is applied to the scars but the pain quickly subsides.

Another process for acne scar removal is with the use of chemical peels. This is a skin resurfacing procedure with the help of chemicals that are medically approved for use on skin. Chemical peels are light, medium and deep and the process involves removal of the uppermost layer of scan from the scarred region and stimulating new growth of cells and tissue after which the scars become less and less visible. The intensity of the chemicals used for the peel depend on the severity of the scars. There is moderate pain during the skin peeling process and the patient may be required to take a few days leave during the post treatment recovery process.

The laser resurfacing process is similar to the laser fractional laser treatment and is another of the common acne scar removal processes. This process uses a heated wand on the scarred areas to remove layers of the affected skin and is a little more painful than the other processes. Healing time may be upto 10 days depending on the severity of the scars. This is a once off process which is highly effective and people with deep acne scars have reported immediate reduction in the intensity of the scars.

Another well known acne scar removal process is the procedure of skin needling. This is a dermatological process and is performed by a certified dermatologist. The process involves using a needle studded device to simulate collagen formation. Results come after repetitive sessions of treatment. There is moderate pain during the needle piercing process.

Another acne scar removal process is the botox process also known as the Otabotulinumtoxin A process where botox is injected into puckered skin near the scars. This treatment relaxes the surrounding skin and causes the acne scars to slowly diminish. But several sessions are required before perceptible results begin to be observed.

Surgery is an extreme case scenario for very deep acne scars that are otherwise difficult to remove. The surgeon cuts out the scars and replaces the wounds with stitches and skin grafts. This process is also known as punch excision. The process also uses a process known as subcision where the surgeon inserts needles below the skin where the scars are in order to loosen the fibres.

Facial cupping is an ancient technique that has been around for several thousand years and originated in Egypt. It heals scars, eliminates wrinkles and helps in healing. This ancient technique uses cups that generate suction. The suction from the cups triggers regeneration in the cells and increases production of collagen. This ancient technique works amazingly by increasing generation of blood platelets in the areas below the skin and promotes healing by this amazing way. Facial cupping has made a comeback of sorts and many people are preferring to use this treatment for removing acne scars.

Dermabrasion is yet another of the acne scar removal methods. It is an exfoliating technique that removes the outer layer of the skin. The process is painful and so local anaesthesia is applied to the skin in order to numb the area before incisions are made. This process is quite effective though it takes months before the acne scars appear to heal completely. Immediate side effects are enlargement of skin pores and darkening of the skin where incisions have been made.

Precautions and care to go side by side with the treatment

Any guide on removal of acne scars will not be complete without recommending home remedies over and above the clinical treatment listed above. The most important of these are

Cleaning- Cleaning is extremely important to not only prevent acne but also to remove scars. Dirt gets into the pores of the skin and, together with excess sebum oil, they choke up the skin pores. The clogged pores with the dirt goes under bacterial attack and the infected areas develop acne. The best cleansing lotions depend on the skin type and must be applied at least once a day.

Water intake- Drinking at least 5 to 6 litres of water everyday is essential to keep the entire body hydrated. Adequate water in the body allows new skin to grow regularly and new skin can result in less formation of acne and replacement of older skin will ensure faster removal of acne scars.

Food- A Low carb diet with low glycemic index and high protein content can help reduce acne stains and scars. Some specific food that help in this context are sweet potatoes, papaya, cauliflower, pumpkins, legumes, quinoa and kale. Food rich in minerals and vitamins help fight bacteria in the skin and help retain skin uniformity.
